And We’re Done: The End Of NaNoWriMo 2015

Well, it was a long month but I did it. 50,225 words later and NaNoWriMo 2015 is over. I won’t lie and say that it’s a novel worth reading, or that it’s readable at all. To be honest I haven’t actually read over it all myself yet. I’m a little bit scared to as I am aware just how bad it is. I changed my mind about certain parts of the story halfway through, sometimes I changed them back again near the end and sometimes not, but I know that the 50,000 words aren’t particularly coherent and I’m dreading the day I have to read back over them and start editing. I think that will be a job for Rachel in 2016, let present Rachel at least enjoy Christmas first.

But I know that when I do start editing, after I stop crying anyway, I will re-write and re-write and eventually it will be readable, hopefully even publishable, but who knows. For now I’m going to go back to focusing on short stories and trying to enter as many competitions as I can. The one I’m looking at now is the Magic Oxygen Literary Prize, which I better get a move on quick as the closing date is looming ever nearer.

How did everyone else get on with NaNoWriMo this year? If you got to the 50,000 words, or even if you didn’t, at least we all have something on paper and have no excuse not to keep at it  now.

Happy writing everybody!
